# Project Rules

These rules are always active for every AI interaction in this workspace.

## Response Style
- Be concise. Don't over-explain.
- Do ONE thing per response. Don't chain multiple file reads/writes unless asked.
- If you need to read multiple files, list which ones you need first and let the user confirm.
- Prefer editing specific functions over rewriting entire files.

## Code Style
- Use TypeScript strict mode
- Prefer async/await over .then() chains
- Use meaningful variable names (no single letters except loop counters)
- Add JSDoc comments to exported functions

## Architecture
- Keep files under 300 lines — split if larger
- One class/interface per file
- Use barrel exports (index.ts) for directories

## When Writing Code
- Always handle errors (no empty catch blocks)
- Use early returns to reduce nesting
- Prefer const over let
- Use template literals over string concatenation

## Tool Usage
- Read only the files you actually need — don't scan the whole project unless asked
- Use readFile with a symbol name or line range instead of reading entire large files
- When editing, use editFile (find/replace) instead of writeFile (full rewrite) when possible
